Description

On the wiki for connect, the following statement is made:

OpenSSH development team decides to stop supporting SOCKS and any other tunneling mechanism. It was aimed to separate complexity to support various mechanism of proxying from core code. And they recommends more flexible mechanism: ProxyCommand?? option instead.

I have not been able to find any such statement on www.openssh.org. The OpenSSH FAQ describes how to do port forwarding (item 2.11), without mentioning any plans to desupport the mechanism. If this statement about OpenSSH's development plans is accurate, please provide a reference that can be checked.
